YoungPatient Pathway at TVVS

Supporting informed and confident choices for younger patients considering vasectomy

At Thames Valley Vasectomy Services (TVVS), we welcome adult patients of all ages for no-scalpel vasectomy, including younger men who are clear in their reproductive choices. However, research and experience show that individuals under the age of 30—particularly those without children—are statistically more likely to experience a change of mind in the future.

That’s why we have created a dedicated Young Patient Pathway: a thoughtful, structured process to ensure that every decision is fully informed, individually assessed, and made with long-term confidence.

Who is considered a young patient?

At TVVS, we define (according to the national vasectomy service standard) “young patients” as:

  • Anyone under the age of 30 with or without children

All patients in these categories are required to go through our Young Patient Pathway before proceeding with a vasectomy.

Step 1: Application & Reflection

The first step is to complete our Young Patient Form, a structured questionnaire designed to:

  • Help you clarify your motivations,

  • Reflect on future scenarios (e.g., new relationships, changing life goals),

  • Demonstrate your understanding of vasectomy as a long-term decision.

We treat every application on its own merit. While we have declined some requests, the majority are accepted—particularly when accompanied by a thoughtful, well-expressed personal statement.

Step 2: Consultation Fee and Clinical Review

A £95 consultation fee is required to begin the Young Patient Pathway. This covers:

  • Dr. Kittel’s personal review of your case,

  • A response and clinical assessment via email,

  • Access to our informational webinar and follow-up consultation.

💡 Important:
This fee counts toward your total cost and you will not be charged more than any other patient overall. If Dr. Kittel determines the vasectomy is not technically possible, the fee will be refunded in full. However, if you change your mind (which is often a wise and valid decision), or if Dr. Kittel advises you to wait and you accept that advice, this fee will be retained to cover the clinical time and service already provided.

Once payment is received, we’ll set you up in our system and email the Young Patient Form to begin the process.

Step 3: Review and Cooling-Off Period

After you submit your form, Dr. Kittel will review your responses and provide a personalised reply, typically within one week. You’ll then receive:

  • A welcome email,

  • Our Application and Patient Information forms as well as a specific Young Patient Form (to be completed online).

Once these forms are submitted, you may book your vasectomy for a date no sooner than 2–4 weeks later, in line with the legally required cooling-off period.

Our Philosophy

We believe in supporting every patient with respect, transparency, and clinical integrity. The Young Patient Pathway is not a barrier—it’s a safeguard to ensure that your decision is the right one for your life now and in the future.

For many patients, the process affirms and strengthens their decision. For others, it brings valuable clarity and may lead to a decision to wait. Both outcomes are valid and supported by our team.
